Sawatdee Kaa Thailand!

I'm hatching a plan to travel to Thailand April 2010 with my brother pending we save enough money. I hear that Thailand is a super cheap place to get SCUBA certified, which is going to be my main mission during the trip. I found a small private island that looks promising, the Nangyuan Island 'Dive Resort' where a 4 day Open Water certification will run you under 300 USD and they throw in a beach hut with two single beds, a fan and refrigerator. For a couple dollars more a night you can get a hut with AC and hot water. The AC might be nice, but being so close to the equator, taking a hot shower would be the last thing I would want to do. The bonus to all this is, the island looks like a beach paradise, with a small strip of sand (depending on tides) connecting it to a larger (but still small) Ko Tao (turtle) island with a larger variety of activities.

Depending on the heat and humidity, a trip inland would be nice as well. We would be arriving in Bangkok, so exploration there is a must. Some of my student have told me about interesting world heritage sites in northern Thailand and along the east border with Cambodia. A trip across the border might be interesting as well. Who wouldn't want to take a nice holiday in Cambodia?

A very informative site on traveling around Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam etc...
